Use your camera & microphone in the Chrome Browser
Open Chrome . If you do not have a Chrome Browser you must download and install it first. Click here to download Chrome.
Go to a site that wants to use your microphone and camera.
Note that for your online telehealth appointments you may receive a prompt to activate or allow Camera & Microphone access — access is required for your telehealth visit.
When prompted, choose Allow or Block.
- Allowed sites: Sites can start to record when you’re on the site. If you’re using a different Chrome tab or a different app, a site can’t start recording.
- Blocked sites: Some sites won’t work if you block them. For example, you won’t be able to join a video conference.
If you are using a headset during your telehealth appointment and the provider cannot hear you, make sure that you are not muted.
Change a site’s camera & microphone permissions
Open Chrome .
At the top right, click More Settings.
Under “Privacy and security,” click Site settings.
Click Camera or Microphone.
- Turn Ask before accessing on or off.
- To remove an existing exception or permission, to the right of the site, click Delete .
For general security protocol we strongly recommend that you always turn on Ask Before Accessing in both your Camera and Microphone Permission settings. Otherwise, malicious websites may be able to hear and see you through your computer’s camera or microphone without your knowledge.
Keeping this setting turned on means that only you control which websites have permission to your camera and your microphone.
