February is Nation Heart Health Month!

Heart disease is the leading cause of death for both men and women. To prevent heart disease and increase awareness of its effects, Gagon Family Medicine is proudly participating in American Heart Month. Controlling and preventing risk factors is important for people who already have heart disease. To lower your risk:

  • Watch your weight.
  • Quit smoking and stay away from secondhand smoke.
  • Control your cholesterol and blood pressure.
  • If you drink alcohol, drink only in moderation.
  • Get active and eat healthy.

February 7th, 2020 is National Wear Red Day

Join NHLBI, The Heart Truth, and organizations around the country on National Wear Red Day, celebrated each year on the first Friday in February, to bring greater attention to heart disease awareness as the leading cause of death for Americans. Use the poster, stickers, and social media resources below to promote Wear Red Day in your community.

How can American Heart Month make a difference?

We can use this month to raise awareness about heart disease and how people can prevent it — both at home and in the community.

Here are just a few ideas:

  • Encourage families to make small changes, like using spices to season their food instead of salt.
  • Motivate teachers and administrators to make physical activity a part of the school day. This can help students start good habits early.
  • Ask doctors and nurses to be leaders in their communities by speaking out about ways to prevent heart disease.

Move More & Win a Prize!

During the month of February, Gagon Family Medicine is encouraging everyone to “move more” in conjunction with National Heart Health month. Take a photo of yourself working out, walking, dancing or however you move and post it to your Facebook Page. If you tag Gagon Family Medicine with the following: #movemorewithgagon you will be entered in our drawing for a heart healthy prize!
