Use your camera & microphone in Chrome
1. On your Android device, open the Chrome app .
2. Go to a site that wants to use your microphone and camera.
(Note that for your online telehealth appointments you may receive a prompt to activate or allow Camera & Microphone access — this is required for your telehealth visit.)
3. When prompted, tap Allow or Block.
- Allowed sites: Sites can start to record when you’re on the site. If you’re using a different Chrome tab or a different app, a site can’t start recording.
- Blocked sites: Some sites won’t work if you block them. For example, you won’t be able to join a video conference.
Once you have activated Camera and Microphone access, you will be able to begin your Telehealth appointment. Please confirm access at least 30 minutes before your scheduled appointment.
Change a site’s camera & microphone permissions
1. On your Android device, open the Chrome app .
2. To the right of the address bar, tap More Settings.
- Tap Site Settings.
- Tap Microphone or Camera.
- Tap to turn the microphone or camera on or off. (If you see the site you want to use under Blocked, tap the site Access your microphone Allow.)
If you’ve turned off microphone access on your device, you can control your app permissions on Android to use your mic.
For general security protocol we strongly recommend that you always turn on Ask Before Accessing in both your Camera and Microphone Permission settings. Otherwise, malicious websites may be able to hear and see you through your computer’s camera or microphone without your knowledge.
Keeping this setting turned on means that only you control which websites have permission to your camera and your microphone.
